Greetings dear subscribers, friends, followers, clients, partners, readers and viewers
These are tough times if you believe in The Good Future (as I’ve been known to do) - but I am not giving up on this theme quite yet.
I hope you are staying well and hanging in there despite the shocking Ukraine/Russia developments. Maybe my recommended reading list on this topic, below, can help.
Putin’s actions certainly do not bode well for the future and my heart goes out to all my friends and colleagues, and everyone else, in the Ukraine. Personally, I have resolved to boycott all events (online or real-life) in Russia until this situation is peacefully resolved.
I have also started to investigate what all of this means for the Future of Europe, and particularly how Democracy can be ‘fit for the future’. Hence, my GerdTalks#5 live-streaming event on March 14 will zero in on the future of democracy (more below). Please do join me and chime in (yes, all GerdTalks are free!).
Thanks for your attention, and stay well, and remain hopeful.

I have a DIGITAL speaking engagement in Siberia next week. I am contemplating to cancel it because of Russia's aggression towards the Ukraine. I declared that will not engage with any event in Russia until this war is stopped. Should I still contribute to this event in Siberia?

Here's my new video series: what you need to know about the Future
Today, I published the first video in a brand-new series called “What you need to know about the future . This episode is on AI, techvshuman, the future of work and skills, and more. We will present monthly episodes.
It’s also on Vimeo where you can download it and share it as you like. A whatsapp-able version at 720p is here on the cool WYN2K Padlet.
The series presents my boldest bottom lines and key statements, memes and messages from a good many q&a’s I have done during the past 3 years, such as:
- You will not find real happiness on the screen or in the cloud
- Technology is exponential but humans are not
- AI (and machines) should have competence not consciousness
- Efficiency should not be more important than humanity

Live-Stream on The Future of Work: GerdTalks #4 March 7
As announced in my last newsletter I have launched a new live-streaming show called GerdTalks; next Monday we are riffing off a favourite meme I’ve been flogging for 5 years now: ‘If you work like a robot, a robot will take your work’ (video). I will speak about the future of work, skills and education.
So bookmark Monday March 7, at 6pm CET 12 noon EST 9am PST etc (yes we will have recordings afterwards if you are down-under or in Asia). You can sign up on Eventbrite to get updates (it’s free of course) or join directly via LinkedIn (and share it with your friends via the Invite Button…?) or just hit ‘notify’ here on Youtube.
I am always looking for smart and hearty people to comment during the show (it’s live and real-time) so it would be great to have you there!
