Futurist Gerd Leonhard: Welcome to the Future - my best finds and shares

January 26 · Issue #47 · View online

This monthly newsletter features the best finds, links and videos curated by Gerd Leonhard, Futurist & Humanist, Keynote Speaker, Author of 'Technology vs Humanity', Film-Maker www.TheGoodFutureFilm.com & CEO of The Futures Agency in Zürich / Switzerland. Topics: Technology/Humanity, AI, Climate, The Good Future and more.

Hi there!
I hope you are well and also experienced some relief following the Biden/Harris inauguration (or was it… Bernie’s mittens?) Afterwards, it dawned on me that if it wasn’t for Covid-19 we’d probably have another 4 years of Trumpism, for sure. I guess that’s one of the positive effects of Covid-19. Btw, you really must watch this hilarious ‘bye bye Donald’ - video recently shared online via Jimmy Kimmel.
On my end, after a flood of virtual keynotes and talks I did over the past few months it feels good to have a little more time on my hands, right now, and to focus on my new 2021 speaking topics .
I believe that 2021 and this coming decade will be a pivotal point in humanity’s future. In fact, I think the next 10 years will determine whether our future is bright, or dim (or even lights-out), period. We will have all the science and technology to make it ‘heaven’ (rather than hell) - but will have the will?
Will we make the right decisions? Are we able to come together on a common, ‘good future’ agenda? I remain optimistic, because, to paraphrase Winston Churchill (when he spoke about Americans) “we can trust humans to do the right thing - after they’ve tried everything else”. The future is better than we think. IF. In this context, I am launching a bunch of new speaking topics (see below) as well as revamping many of my most popular talks.
So, it is in that spirit and amidst a once-again snowy Zurich backdrop that I send you this hopefully thought-provoking, against-the-norms newsletter to help you to question some of your long-held beliefs and ideologies.
As always, I love hearing from you and wish you all the best in these hard times! All the best, Gerd

Rethinking the Future of Capitalism
This is a long-time topic that is near and dear to my heart, and forms much of the basis of two of my new keynote topics for 2021: The Good Future: Why and how “People-Planet-Purpose and Prosperity” is the key to our Future, and Awesome Humans on top of Amazing Technology: The future of work, jobs and education.

Until next time.
Cheers from Zurich,
PS. My most popular talk of 2020 and into this year as been Moving Beyond the Corona Crisis. If your organization or conference could use an in-depth dive into the next 3-5 years and where we go from here, take a moment to review my timely new material here:

And finally, a bit of a good-bye gift: As you may have noticed, we have produced a ton of short videos lately (mostly with excerpts from my longer virtual keynotes), and many of you have emailed me requesting a download option, so here it is now, via this shared dropbox folder (we call it GerdCloud:).
