December 18 · Issue #43 · View online

This monthly newsletter features the best finds, links and videos curated by Gerd Leonhard, Futurist & Humanist, Keynote Speaker, Author of 'Technology vs Humanity', Film-Maker & CEO of The Futures Agency in Zürich / Switzerland. Topics: Technology/Humanity, AI, Climate, The Good Future and more.

I hope you are well despite all the uncertainty surrounding the upcoming holidays and on what exactly we can expect in 2021. These are tough times, for sure - but there is light at the end of the tunnel, and as I like to say “The Future is better than we think”. On that note, I will have a very special ‘welcome to 2021’ video message coming up later this month - be sure to subscribe to my Youtube channel and hit the ‘alert me’ bell to get notified when I publish new stuff there.
While 2020 has been anything but an easy year for me, I have also learned a lot about resilience and agility, literally on a daily basis. This is a pivotal moment for me, going from some 100+ trips (and approx 800k air-miles per year) for my speaking gigs to what I’m somewhat jokingly calling KeynoteTelevision now:). I love doing virtual keynotes but I certainly miss seeing all of you, face to face. Zoom is great - but hugs are greater:)
I think it is fair to say we’ve all learned a lot this year, and experienced challenges that seemed unimaginable before. We’ve been through tragedies and new forms of togetherness. We’ve witnessed the impossible becoming the ‘new normal’ on a daily basis. Many of us have been stuck on the Corona Coaster.
But yet despite all that, humanity is proving resourceful and resilient, and in a lot of ways, 2020 has also been a year of hyper-collaboration, solidarity and mutual support. Yes, we’ve seen both a push toward de-globalisation and unilateralism, but also an equally important and valuable push for solidarity.
And that, at least, is a positive thing - as Covid-19 is also a “Trial Run for Climate Change” we are going to need every inch of resolve we can find to tackle this issue.
I wish you all an amazing holiday week, and an awesome 2021. Remember that we’ll have all the tools we need - we just need the ‘telos’ i.e. the will and the purpose.
Virtual hugs from Zürich
