Greetings everyone, what a roller-coaster of uncertainty we are currently going through! Tough times for many of us. Now we must hyper-collaborate, pursue the unorthodox, adapt quickly and transform: welcome to the great pivoting! Here, below, are a few resources to help with this challenge. I wish you a safe, nice and cautiously optimistic summer. Remember: The Future is better than we think - we just need to create it proactively…and together. Kind regards from Switzerland

We're entering the era of the GREAT PIVOTING, dominated by big tech, big media, big state, big health and big green (and soon... big debt). This is a very unique opportunity... and also a tough challenge but I remain optimistic about the future! https://t.co/n30cuXHHDy

To build back better, we will have to reinvent capitalism | World Economic Forum
“Thanks to the ongoing pandemic, the world is off-balance – and it will remain so for years to come. Far from settling into a ‘new normal’, we should expect a COVID-19 domino effect, triggering further disruptions – positive as well as negative – over the decade ahead”
|
From Globalisation to Regionalization (and the End of Oil)
“Many industries will be hard hit by the Covid-19 pandemic, but nowhere is the suffering more likely to produce geopolitical ramifications than in the case of petroleum…With the Covid-19 pandemic collapsing economic activity around the world, we can expect a long period of low prices—with severe and possibly fatal consequences for the current leadership of major producers”
|
Why this is the moment to fight climate change (WEF)
“GIM sees that while the pandemic has exposed social and economic inequalities and revealed how vulnerable the planet and its inhabitants are to sudden shocks, it has also raised awareness of the fragility of our natural system and the need for a unified approach to fighting climate change….”

Responsibility or Ruin | by Joschka Fischer
“Although the top priority today is to contain the COVID-19 pandemic and mitigate its economic fallout, we must not ignore the long-term implications of the crisis. Our actions now determine the fate of all other species on the planet…Europe has been offered an unexpected opportunity, provided that it doesn’t bet on superpower competition. Instead, it must gather the courage to set the example of collective responsibility that humanity needs” (Yes, I’m a great fan of Joschka)

Covid-19 Will Accelerate the AI Health Care Revolution (Must-read) by Kai Fu Lee
“The potential goes beyond diagnosis and treatment. Getting appointments, paying insurance bills, and other processes should be much less painful. AI combined with robotic process automation can analyze workflows and optimize processes to deliver significantly more…”

How Musk, Bezos And Other Visionaries Use The “Future-Back” Technique
“Bezos and Jobs are outliers, of course, but they both embraced a visionary but learnable mindset that we call “future-back” as opposed to “present-forward.” Present-forward leaders build their organizations in increments, following the rules and procedures that work today. Future-back leaders, in contrast, visualize what their organizations could be, starting from a clean sheet, and then mobilize whatever they need in order to bring it into being. Future-back thinking doesn’t replace present-forward thinking—it complements and completes it….”

WHERE ARE WE GOING? I have a few ideas.

» Where Are We Going? A new TV show with Gerd Leonhard
Where are we going? Where do we want to go? How will we get there? We are living in utterly uncertain and confusing times. Gerd’s new TVH show, WhereAreWeGoing (WAWG) focuses on asking the right questions, and on exploring the near-future possibilities (i.e. the next 10 years) with an open mind and heart. The real question is not ‘what will the future bring’ but ‘what kind of future do we want?’.
WAWG wants to leave its viewers with a sense of hope, understanding and excitement about the future. WAWG is not a live-show; rather, it is produced in Gerd Leonhard’s virtual studio using a unique cross-media blend of virtual backgrounds, animations and motion graphics, video clips, social media streams, background art, music, SFX and various audio components, as well as short contributions by virtual guests (audio and video) … with Gerd serving as the guide ‘from the future’.

Heard to believe right now, I concur:)

I am working on a new piece, to be published via my Forbes.com contributor page, soon, depicting what I call the Great American Renaissance that is likely to come in 2021. Yes I know that is a daring foresight but I still believe the ailing ‘USS America’ will pivot radically after facing their disastrous Covid19 handling, racial injustice riots, explosive inequality and the now even more obvious perils of extreme capitalism (and climate change, of course)

|
Some context for the video below: Opinion | Facing the Coronavirus and Racial Injustice, America Still Has Hope - The New York Times (Nicholas Kristof)
“Yes, our nation is a mess, but overlapping catastrophes have also created conditions that may finally let us extricate ourselves from the mire. The grim awareness of national failures — on the coronavirus, racism, health care and jobs — may be a necessary prelude to fixing our country….”
